It was a joy to photograph these Sylvan Lake of the Black Hills of SD engagement pictures for Hunter and Jordanne. Sylvan Lake is absolutely stunning this time of year with everything greening up, the birds singing, and little patches of snow clinging for life at the edges of the lake. All sorts of animals were enjoying themselves: ducks, geese, and squirrels were everywhere. Fish kept splashing up at the surface and we saw a bird dive down for one. It was so much fun traveling for their engagement photos. The natural beauty of the Black Hills is unmatched!!

Parents were extremely respectful, giving me all the space that I needed to take pictures. The couples were equally respectful, posing just how LaQuita Shockley directed. LaQuita posed couples and groups and kept track of who we were photographing with a clipboard. She live streamed grand march on The Dakota Herald’s facebook page. Because even if you are pregnant more than once, you are going to want different looks for each photoshoot. Maternity dresses, at least the extravagant ones, are pretty spendy. I can’t imagine asking my clients to drop hundreds on wardrobe, but I can imagine making & growing my own client closet.

Marie & Robert took care of the food- providing fruit, meat & cheese and cupcakes for everyone to share with a whole cake just for Adam. Henry helped by providing decorations- a variety of superhero figurines, each about a foot tall.

Life has not changed too much for the Anderson’s. Mom and Dad get less sleep while Sadie and Emmie are taking full responsibility of their big sister roles. They help out mom any time they can- if she is feeding Henley, they retrieve things for her. If Henley needs to be held, both are up for the challenge. They even help out with diaper changes!!

Here’s my solution: Host a Boudoir Photoshoot at a stellar AirBnB. Do a really good marketing campaign and ask each person that participates to pay a small fee to cover the cost of the rental. The investment will help people stay true to their word and actually show up & work. This sounds easy, but it was loads of stressful decisions, uncomfortable moves and money.

This sweet couple is preparing for their wedding this September. Our initial plan was to take engagement photos the second weekend of February, but the high in Bismarck was -7F and the low was -32F. Thankfully, everyone was able to get together this Sunday and the weather was a much more agreeable 34F.
Eclectic Wreck performed at Live at the Lake at the end of August last year. I remember this day so clearly. It was warm & balmy with a strong wind. This was one of the first nights I felt the season changing from summer to fall.

The big event in Lemmon, South Dakota is the Boss Cowman Rodeo. Held the second weekend of July, the Boss Cowman Rodeo lasts three to four days, depending on who you ask. The entire town gets together to celebrate our past, watch fearless cowboys and get our boogie on. There’s food, drink and activities for people of all ages.

There are many locations in Lemmon that are ideal for family photos. I’m always looking for for good lighting, clean backgrounds and (preferably) greenery.
In one hour, we can stop at two to four locations in town. Personally, I think three locations is the a good number of spots.
