Chase & Robbie Burandt | June 9, 2019
LOOKING BACK
One of my favorite weddings from 2019 was Chase & Robbie’s Sunday Ceremony in Sioux Falls. The couple was incredibly organized and extremely laid back. Chase and Robbie wanted the day to be about their love, friends, and family- not focused on posing for the camera.
We met up at the Holiday Inn in downtown Sioux Falls- the location for most of the day’s events. My time started off with capturing all the details and scouting out our formal photo location. Hint: I found the most beautiful lighting and background situation. It’s easily my favorite indoor location in all of Sioux Falls to photograph portraits.
The wedding party slowly arrived. The group met in the foyer with fans, heels, rainbow shirts & boutonnieres. I felt good vibrations from the group right away. Everyone was all smiles and cheer. Can we pause here for a moment: Robbie’s son looks just like Philip “Lip” Gallager from the Showtime Original, Shameless??
We had a handful of downtown locations to take photos of the wedding party. As we visited each location, we would take photos of the group and Chase & Robbie. Everywhere we turned there was inspiration. The hallway to the roof, the fountain on Philips, the elevator in the parking garage, a painted mural (and the list goes on!)
At our final destination, we set off smoke bombs in rainbow colors, held by the wedding party. Easily the coolest concept of all time. And the photos? Stunning.

Finally, it was time for the ceremony. Everyone cried a little and laughed a little. We cheered so loud when it was time for the kiss, and Chase & Robbie greeted everyone with a hug as they were escorted out. I could see parts of Chase & Robbie’s love story in each of their guests.
The reception was a classic event with a delicious dinner, cake & toasts. Live music performed by Janae Sturma. Whom is a local artist they heard on their first date. Before she sang they told me she had the voice of an angel. She did not disappoint.
If there was anything that I learned at Chase & Robert’s wedding: it’s that these two gay guys really know how to put on a party. The dance floor was constantly full of cherry guests who knew how to move! Everyone was having a ball with the photo booth and DJ Josh had the crowd rockin’ all night.
LOOKING FORWARD
I keep tabs on the Burandts on Facebook. I loveeeeed seeing posts of the two on their dream honeymoon in New Zealand, pictures of them cooking, staying at home, and growing a garden. I hope to get drinks with the two sometime, but my travel plans to Sioux Falls have pretty much all stopped due to COVID-19.
Should we aim for something in 2021 fellas?
